If your best affix is sitting in the wrong slot, use Runes of Havoc to shuffle tiers around. This process is risky but can produce miraculous results - like moving a T7 crit multi onto the perfect prefix slot.

Sometimes you'll completely miss and ruin your item. Other times, you'll hit what calls "the miracle" - the exact roll you wanted. Accept that luck is part of Last Epoch's crafting philosophy.

Step 3: Decide What to Upgrade

Once you have the correct affixes in place, focus on upgrading the ones that matter most. In the Lich example, prioritized crit multi (for pure damage) and spell crit.

However, every upgrade consumes potential. If an upgrade could consume all your remaining potential, consider safer plays, like upgrading a resistance stat that only costs 1-10 potential points. Balancing risk versus reward is the heart of endgame crafting.

You can also seal an unwanted affix to make room for a new one. For instance, sealing off cold resistance lets you craft void resistance in its place. Sealing does not prevent you from slamming - it just hides that affix from the fusion process.

Step 4: Fine-Tune with Rune of Refinement

When you're nearly done, check your key stats' values within their roll range. If your crit multi rolls mid-tier (say 52 out of 58), you can use a Rune of Refinement to reroll it to a higher value - if you have potential left.

Refine only the stats that are guaranteed to transfer during the slam. Don't waste resources perfecting affixes that might not move over.

Step 5: Duplicating and Preparing to Slam

If your item still has potential, duplicate it using a Rune of Creation. This gives you a backup copy to try again in case your slam doesn't hit the desired stats. Once you're satisfied with your setup, it's time to slam.

How to Slam in the Temporal Sanctum

Slam crafting happens in the Temporal Sanctum, where you fuse your unique and exalted item into a Legendary.

Get a Temporal Sanctum Key - Right-click it to open the dungeon.

Run at Least Tier 2 - Only tier two or higher guarantees that one chosen affix will transfer.

Match Item Requirements - Each tier of the Sanctum allows certain level requirements. For instance:

Tier 2: Accepts items up to level 65

Tier 3: Up to level 75

Tier 4: No restrictions (required for the rarest gear)

When you reach Jolra, the boss of the Sanctum, defeat her and interact with the crafting cache. You'll see a dropdown list where you can select one guaranteed affix to transfer.

In Rex's case, the T7 crit multi was guaranteed, and he had a 1-in-3 chance to bring over spell crit as well. Even if you miss, your guaranteed affix ensures your Legendary will still be strong.

Bonus Example: Crafting Simpler Gear

Not every item needs four perfect stats. For example, endgame boots only need movement speed, cooldown recovery, and hybrid health. If your boots have only 1 LP, just ensure the movement speed is T7 and call it a day - that's your guaranteed stat to transfer.

You can still use Runes of Havoc to move that T7 affix where you want it, but there's no need to overcomplicate low-LP items.
